5 Fresh and Fun Organization Tips for Work at Home Moms

If you're like most work at home moms, you are always looking for new and fresh ways to organize your home and your time. It can be tough to manage it all, especially when the lines between work and home start to blur. In this blog post, we will discuss 5 new organization tips that will help you stay on top of things this year.

Fresh Tip #1: Upgrade your dedicated workspace.

As we already know, one of the best ways to organize your time and your work is to get a dedicated workspace. This could be a desk in a spare room, or even just an unused corner of your living room. Maybe your space is looking a little dull and you need to freshen it up? Even something as small as buying a new mousepad or a desk mat, or even a nice white board and new pens could really make you feel great. Having a refreshed, prettied up designated space for work will help you stay focused and organized!

Fresh Tip #2: Invest in some good tech, or upgrade the current one you have.

Another great way to organize your work and keep track of things is by investing in some good quality technology. This could be something as simple as a new laptop, or even an external hard drive if you’re low on storage space. Maybe you need to upgrade your internet plan. Think of ways to improve your tech if you can budget for it and see if it will make you work faster. I know personally, after upgrading to a new Macbook Pro, it saved me tons of time and energy because of how fast and efficient it is. I work a lot on Google Chrome browser, and I use multiple browsers because I work with different teams. I like to keep my browser tabs open because I constantly toggle between workspaces. It used to be painfully slow with my old 2011 laptop....it definitely was pricey to upgrade, but worth it.

Fresh Tip #3: Research a new Project Management Tool

Another way to help keep you organized and on track is by using project management tools. There are a lot of different ones out there, but I like Asana because it’s free for teams under 15 people. It helps me keep all my team’s tasks in one place and deadlines easily visible. Plus, the notifications system keeps everyone accountable. If someone doesn’t complete their task by the deadline, Asana sends them a notification (or even an email) until it gets done. And if you have team members who work remotely, that’s no problem! Asana has a great mobile app that they can use to stay up-to-date with their tasks wherever they are. I like creating new projects for each client along with progress tracking in the form of lists in Kanban-style view and also having a main resource board with all my clients files in one place, how much each retainer is, how they like to communicate and all their information like an online rolodex.

Fresh Tip #4: Start using digital or printable planners

One of my favourite ways to stay organized is to use a planner. I know, I know – you’re probably thinking “I don’t have time for that!” But planners can be really helpful if you find the right one and use it correctly. And there are so many different types out there that there’s definitely one perfect for you. If you like to plan everything out in advance, then a paper planner might be the way to go. There are lots of cute printable ones available online, or you could buy a physical planner from your favourite store. But if you prefer more flexibility and want to be able to change your plans on the fly, then try using a digital planner instead. I have some cute printable planners to choose from in my Etsy Shop - check them out!

Fresh Tip #5: Refresh your calendar time blocks

The last tip that I have for you to be more organized in 2022 is to change up the time blocks you use in your calendar. Maybe try using 30 minute time blocks instead of hour long ones, or mix up your morning and evening routine. This will help keep things feeling new and exciting, plus it can help with productivity since we all know that changing your routine can create more efficiency and may open up some time for you to do something creative, have more time for yourself, spend more time on projects that you have wanted to work on but have not had the time for. Squeeze in some buffer time between meetings to check your emails so that you're not stuck at the end of the day with a full inbox, or start checking in with your team in the early mornings before you start working for the day so that you're on the right track. Whatever you plan to change, make sure you add it to your calendar. Change the colours of the blocks to create more visual interest. I like using Google Calendar for colour blocks, I prefer it over Apple calendar which doesn't have enough flexibility for my needs.

It can be tricky to stay organized when you're working from home especially with kiddos at your feet, but with a little bit of effort and creativity, it's definitely doable. These tips should help you get started, but feel free to experiment until you find what works best for you. Good luck!
